John A. Aboud
John A. Aboud, Director of Bands at Algona Community High School, has been a board member since 2001. He is a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and a graduate of Kennedy High School. Mr. Aboud holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in music education from the University of Northern Iowa and is a National Board Certified Teacher. He has been an instrumental music teacher and director of bands in Iowa for 30 years.
On numerous occasions, he has been a performance adjudicator, guest conductor, lecturer, and student teacher supervisor, and he has penned a number of journal articles. Students under his direction have consistently been top performers, and the band program at Algona High School has received state, regional, and national recognition for excellence. Among his honors are: Award of Merit for Leadership in Music Education from the Algona Community School District Board of Directors (1992); Teacher of the Year in Iowa State Education Association UniServe Unit 10 (1993-1994); Teacher Recognition Award from Northwestern College (1998); and the 2004 Iowa Bandmasters Association Karl King Service Award for active band directors.
Mr. Aboud served as the Iowa All-State Band Chairman, elected by the Iowa Music Educators Association, from 1999 through the 2004 festival. He currently serves as president of the Iowa Music Educators Association .
