CALENDAR OF EVENTS
10/2: 6:00 p.m. American Sign Language Social hosted by Deaf Awareness and DMACC located at ALL-Play 615 - 3rd Street, Des Moines, games, eat and drink. First Friday of every month.

10/3: 1:00 p.m. Central Iowa Club of the Deaf Meeting located at 503 Broad Street, Story City. New officers will be elected. Everyone is invited. 

10/8, 12, 22, 26: 7:00 — 10:00 p.m. American Sign Language Social hosted by Deaf Awareness     located at Coldstone Ice Cream Shop, 8779 Northpark Ct., Johnston, games, fun and ice cream!   Everyone interested in ASL is invited! 

10/17: 6-11 p.m. Cedar Rapids Association of the Deaf Halloween Party located at Hiawatha Community Center, 101 Emmons Street, Hiawatha.  Admission: $5 with costume, $6 without costume, $4for 6-18 years old, and 5 under Free.

October 31: 8:30 a.m. Iowa Association of the Deaf Meeting located at Council Bluffs Silent Club, 536 Bluffs Street, Council Bluffs.

The new 2008 American Community Survey (ACS) just released on September 22, 2009  estimated hearing loss data information. 

Iowa Total Population: 2,951, 468
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Population 
Under 5 years:  652
5—17 years: 3,579
18—64 years: 44,749
65 years and over: 66,028

3.4% of the population has some kind of hearing loss.
