Finance, Facilities, and Operation Services Unit is structured to function collaboratively within the Division of School Support and Information Services.
Key Responsibilities
The Finance, Facilities, and Operation Services Unit manages a number of finance-focused activities that include, but are not limited to:
- Providing publications, professional development, and technical assistance on K-12 financial accounting and business operations for school districts and area education agencies.
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive system of financial accounting designed to establish standardized electronic data collections and reporting protocols that facilitate compliance with state and federal requirements, uniformity, accuracy and efficiency.
- Interpreting law on appropriate uses of school funds, tuition, and financial and pupil accounting, striving for equitable application of financial accountability while minimizing regulation.
- Collecting and analyzing data on certified financial reports from school districts and area education agencies.
- Preparing reports to the federal government on K-12 education finance.
- Collecting and analyzing data on certified budgets of area education agencies.
- Allocating funding to school districts and area education agencies for several state and federal aid programs.
- Collecting and analyzing data on certified student enrollments from school districts and nonpublic schools.
- Serving as liaison between the School Budget Review Committe and school districts.
- Coordinating the OMB Circular A-133 audit review for the department.
- Managing school infrastructure programs.
- Providing support for reorganization, operational sharing, and feasibility studies.
