Iowa School Districts Help Reduce Achievement Gap |
|
Six school districts were honored by the State Board of Education yesterday for improving gaps in student achievement. Davenport, Fort Dodge, Keokuk, Marshalltown, Norwalk and Waterloo community school districts each received a Breaking Barriers to Learning and Teaching Award, which was created by the State Board of Education to recognize successful efforts to eliminate achievement gaps by improving instruction, curriculum and programs, and professional development opportunities for school staff.

2008 Condition of Education Report Released |
|
The Iowa Department of Education released The Annual Condition of Education Report for 2008. The report shows an increase in many areas of student achievement and a decade of declining enrollment, with an increase projected.

Applications are now being taken as part of the Harkin Grant (Iowa Demonstration Construction Grant Program, [Fire Safety and Construction]) in the amount of $4,694,034. In addition, carry-over funds from the 2005-06 grant period will be available for short-term fire safety and construction grants.
