School Operations
This section provides links to publications and documents related to business operating procedures in school district and area education agencies. The Uniform Administrative Procedures manuals are available in this section. One manual is specific to school districts and the other to area education agencies (AEA).

Charter Schools Print E-mail

Iowa Charter Schools are part of the public school district. This section includes answers to frequently asked questions related to identifying and handling financial transactions of the charter schools within the public school district's financial records.

For financial purposes, the charter school is part of the public school district in the same way as a school building site is a part of the public school district. The charter school financial transactions follow the same procedures and will be incorporated into the public school district records using Uniform Financial Accounting for Iowa School Districts and AEAs. The district will identify the transactions related to the charter school by creating a facility code in its account code structure to use specifically with those transactions.

Public school districts, nonpublic schools, area education agencies, and public libraries are eligible to apply for funding under the Universal Service Administrative Company "E-Rate" Program.

Periodically the Department provides to school districts and area education agencies (AEA) information on new initiatives or emerging issues in school business management in e-newsletter form, called School Business Alerts. These are sent to districts and AEAs by email, and are posted on the web as long as the information is still pertinent or until incorporated into published manuals.
