Teams of teachers in nine high schools are currently working on an initiative that focuses on engaging students in higher-level thinking and in-depth understanding. Through the initiative, called Authentic Intellectual Work (AIW), teachers are working to improve instruction and help raise student achievement. No other state in the nation is conducting this program.  In this latest Iowa Department of Education podcast, we talk with Director Judy Jeffrey about Iowa’s work with Authentic Intellectual Work (AIW). Please visit our podcast site (http://www.iowa.gov/educate/content/category/27/639/1157/ ) each month to hear a variety of information on topics ranging from statewide education trends to the State Board of Education’s legislative priorities.
