9th in the nation in reading in the National Assessment of Educational Progress

Math Scores Are Among the Nation's Best: Iowa 8th graders score 8th
highest in the nation in math in the National Assessment of Educational Progress

Math Scores Are Up: The proportion of Iowa public school 4th graders
who scored at the highest two levels in mathematics in the National Assessment
of Educational Progress (NAEP) increased by 64% between 1996 and 2003. RCM
Science Scores Are Among the Nation's Best: Iowa ranks 2nd in the
nation for having the highest percentage of public school 4th graders scoring

One of the Best Graduation Rates in the Country: Iowa's public high

Among the Best in the Nation in Students Going on to College: The National
Center for Public Policy and Higher Education gives Iowa a grade of 88 for the
proportion of students who go on to college, which is one of the 7 highest scores

Second in the nation for students who graduate from college: Iowa
students are among the most likely to successfully complete the
education pipeline -- completion of college within four years of high

state in the nation in the percentage of public primary schools with a gifted
