Iowa Department of Education

National Board Certification (NBC) is a certification program designed and administered by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). NBC is available to teachers nationwide and requires candidates to demonstrate their teaching practice as measured against high and rigorous standards. Of the nearly 64,000 teachers nationwide, 564 Iowans have successfully proven themselves to be accomplished teachers by achieving NBC. Current National Board Certified Teachers & 2007-08 Applicants 

Pursuant to amendments made to Iowa Code section 256.44 (2007 Iowa Acts, Chapter 108), the financial incentives for National Board Certified teachers are available only to teachers who applied for National Board Certification on or before December 31, 2007. Funds are available to honor the registration reimbursement in Iowa Administrative Code 84.3 and the annual awards in Iowa Administrative Code 84.4 for eligible individuals. Please review the following information packet for registration fee reimbursement and annual award information.

First-Time Candidates

The U.S. Congress through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education has provided Candidate Subsidy Funds to each state.  First-time candidates can be subsidized for up to one-half of the fee ($1,250). See the following application for additional information.
