Title I - Part B, Subpart 3 - William F. Goodling Even Start Family Literacy Programs Print E-mail

Even Start is a federally funded program focused on family literacy. It is designed to work in cooperation with other programs, such as Head Start, community colleges, local school districts, Title I and parent education programs. It may be used in conjunction with other family development and family resource center programs. Programs must comply with state and local evaluation criteria to receive funding.

Awards

Even Start Family Literacy Grants for 2005-06 have been awarded to the following applicants:

  • The Family Place: Leon and Lineville-Clio
  • Dubuque Community School District, Family Literacy Program, Prescott Early Childhood Center
  • Sioux City Community School District, Even Start Family Literacy Program
  • Neighborhood Centers of Johnston County, Pheasant Ridge Center
  • Community Day Care & Preschool of Greater Fort Dodge
  • Estherville Lincoln Central Even Start
  • Storm Lake Community School District, Families United in Learning
Notice of Availability

Even Start Family Literacy Grant Application for 2006-07 will be available on or about February 28, 2006. It will be available on-line or may be requested by calling: 515-281-3021. The application is due at the Department of Education on April 15, 2006. Awards will be made by June 1, 2006.

Grant Application

The Department will make this application available for those interested in applying for an Even Start Family Literacy Grant understanding that it is dependent on the availability of federal funding. This funding source is proposed to be cut by 56 percent. Grants that will be awarded may not have funding beyond September 2006.

The documents below are for the 2005-06 grant year and may give you an idea of next year's application. The grants for 2006-07 will be posted on or about February 28.
