The State Board works in collaboration with the state system of public
libraries and assists with the educational services provided by Iowa Public
Television, and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
The Board's mission is to champion excellence in education through superior leadership and service. We are committed to high levels of learning, achievement and performance for all students, so they will become successful members of their community and the workforce. The State Board of Education consists of ten members: nine voting members who are appointed by the governor for six-year terms and subject to Senate confirmation; and one nonvoting student member who serves a one-year term, also appointed by the governor. The duties of the State Board include:
