Jeffrey Visits White House

Iowa Department of Education Director Judy Jeffrey was one of more than 40 chief state school officers from across the nation to meet with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, U.S. Second Lady Jill Biden, and U.S. Department of Education (ED) senior advisors at the White House Wednesday, Feb. 25 to discuss the current state-federal partnership with the U.S. Department of Education (ED).

Public Comments for IDEA State Application Parts B & C

The Iowa Department of Education is now taking comments from the public as it prepares to submit its State Eligibility document for Parts B & C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act ( IDEA ), as amended, to the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. Final Portion of Iowa Core Curriculum Approved

Governor Chet Culver recently announced that the State Board of Education has accepted the final portion of the Iowa Core Curriculum required for all kindergarten through 12th grade students in the state of Iowa. The portion approved by the board focuses on expectations for kindergarten through eighth-grade students in the area of social studies and 21st century skills.
