State Funding Cut

On October 8, 2009, Governor Chet Culver announced a 10 percent across-the-board cut to state general fund appropriations effective immediately.

The cut is a reduction of approximately $238.5 million to Iowa schools, $15.9 million cut to Iowa community colleges, and approximately $800,000 to the Iowa Department of Education. What this will mean to Iowa school districts is still unfolding.

Even during these challenging financial times, we, at the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa's education associations, and all Iowa schools remain dedicated to our students and their academic success.
