AGING AND DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER

Project Overview

The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) was created with funding from the Administration on Aging (AoA) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS.) The three-year project will work to integrate the Internet-based aging resources management information system (Iowa Family Caregiver Program) with that of the developmental disabilities information system (Iowa COMPASS.) It will also create an interactive consumer-oriented website to support and expand the "no wrong door" approach to accessing the long-term care system for both the aging population and for persons with disabilities. The Aging and Disability Resource Center project work group, made up of representative of all populations served by the Center, will guide the work of the project.

Expected outcomes of the project include:

  • Empower individuals to make informed choices.
  • Streamline access to long-term care support.
  • Minimize consumer confusion.
  • Enhance individual choice.
  • Enable policy makers and program administrators to effectively respond to individual need, address system problems, and limit the unnecessary use of high-cost services.

All Iowans, especially older adults, caregivers, persons with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities, now have easier access to local, state, and national resources through one comprehensive Web portal at www.LifeLongLinks.org. Learn more about the Web site contents and navigations at www.extension.iastate.edu/webcast/archive06.htm
