Notice: Federal Recovery Act Funds Available to Iowa Agencies that Provide Crime Victim Assistance
Des Moines. Federal Recovery Act (Stimulus) Funds are available to agencies that provide services to victims of crime in Iowa, according to the Crime Victim Assistance Division of the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
Applications for funds are due by April 15. Applications and more information are available at: http://victimservicegrant.iowa.gov/RecoveryStimulusFunds.aspx.
The main purpose of these Recovery Act funds is to stimulate the economy, preserve and create jobs, and assist those most affected by the recession, and these funds are to be used to minimize reductions in essential services for crime victims. The funds cannot replace existing governmental funding. There are two types of funding:
Federal Recovery Act funds from the Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime are available to programs providing direct services to victims of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and child abuse, and to previously-underserved crime victims. Previously-underserved victim programs include but are not limited to programs for survivors of homicide, programs for incest survivors, and programs for county attorney victim/witness services.
Federal Recovery Act funds from the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women are available to victim service providers, prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, and other programs that provide services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. April 15, 2009, at the Crime Victim Assistance Division, Lucas State Office Building, 321 East 12th Street, ground floor, Des Moines, Iowa 50319. Applicants must submit an original and 15 copies of the application.
