One-Year Deadline for Legal Action
Could Apply if Insurance Disputes Resulted
from Parkersburg Area Tornado Damage
State and local officials are alerting Parkersburg area residents that some insurance policy contracts contain a requirement that any legal action must be initiated within one year of the event that resulted in an insurance claim -- such as last year’s tornado -- if a homeowner has a legal dispute with his or her insurance company.
Attorney General Tom Miller, Insurance Commissioner Susan Voss, and Butler County Attorney Greg Lievens advised homeowners to check their policies and contact their insurance agents if they are in dispute with their insurance company about paying for damages caused by the tornado, and if they want to be sure not to lose their right to sue.
Some policies might have a 12-month deadline, and others might have a 24-month or other deadline for initiating any legal action, Voss said. If a deadline is approaching, consumers may wish to contact an attorney of their choice.

Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day), marks the one-year anniversary of the Parkersburg area tornado that caused substantial residential and commercial damage, injury, and loss of life.
