Iowa Utilities Board Receives Technology Award On June 5, 2013, Zirous, formerly CISCO, presented the Board with the z|customer award, which recognizes customers that allow for further growth and solutions to their business challenges using technology. Zirous has worked with the Board and its staff since 2007 to improve its use of technology by creating and maintaining a cutting-edge electronic filing system (EFS) for the electronic submission, verification, distribution and online access of all documents filed with or by the Board.
MidAmerican Energy Company Proposed Rate Increase On May 17, 2013, MidAmerican Energy Company (MidAmerican) filed a proposal to increase its Iowa electric base rates with the Iowa Utilities Board. The Board has scheduled eight consumer comment meetings to be held between June 13 and July 2, 2013, throughout MidAmerican's Iowa service territory. The Board is also accepting written comments in this rate case. MidAmerican Energy Company Seeks Ratemaking Principles for Wind Expansion On May 10, 2013, MidAmerican Energy Company filed a request with the Iowa Utilities Board for advance ratemaking principles on its proposed addition of up to 1,050 megawatts of wind generation in Iowa by the end of 2015. For additional information please review Docket No. RPU-2013-0003. MidAmerican’s customer rates will not change when the Board determines advance ratemaking principles in this case.
Iowa-American Water Company Proposed Rate Increase On April 30, 2013, Iowa-American Water Company filed a proposal to increase its water utility rates with the Iowa Utilities Board. The Board recently held two consumer comment meetings in Bettendorf and Clinton, and the Board continues to accept written public comments in this rate case. Statewide Pilot Program Assists Consumers who are Deaf-Blind The National Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program may offer solutions to consumers who cannot use communication tools such as the telephone or computer because of combined vision and hearing loss. The NDBEDP provides communication technology, assessment, and training to eligible individuals. Iowa’s iowaCanConnect is a pilot program of the Iowa Utilities Board and the Iowa Department for the Blind, which is administered together with Telecommunications Access Iowa, the Iowa Equipment Distribution Program. Iowa Utilities Board-Office of Consumer Advocate LEED® Platinum Building Earlier this year, the Iowa Utilities Board and Office of Consumer Advocate building received LEED® Platinum status. The highly energy-efficient building houses more than 90 employees of the two agencies. The facility is modeled to consume 63 percent less energy than a typical office building of similar size that is compliant with the Iowa Energy Code. Iowa Seeks to Help Address Dropped Calls in Nation’s Rural Areas In a December 2012 letter to the Federal Communications Commission, Governor Terry Branstad expressed that his office and the Iowa Utilities Board would be interested in organizing an FCC workshop in rural Iowa to help solve ongoing telephone call termination issues. In response to the growing problem, the FCC's Rural Call Completion Task Force established an email box for rural providers to alert the FCC about call completion problems, and created a consumer web site to file complaints with the FCC.
Alliant/Interstate Power and Light Company Proposed Natural Gas Generation Plant On November 14, 2012, Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy Company subsidiary, filed requests seeking Iowa Utilities Board approval of a generating certificate and advance ratemaking principles for its proposed 650-megawatt natural gas-fired electric generation facility in Marshall County.
