IOWA SUPREME COURT DECISION
On Friday, May 31, 2013 the Iowa Supreme Court issued a decision finding that the Iowa Board of Nursing and Iowa Department of Public Health did not exceed their regulatory authority by enacting rules allowing Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP) to supervise radiologic technologists using fluoroscopy machines. As healthcare continues to evolve, the Supreme Court has validated the need to use all practitioners at their highest level of education and skill.
The decision states, “These regulatory judgments fall within the scope of the authority and expertise of the nursing board and department of public health.” The Iowa Board of Nursing upholds it’s authority to regulate nursing and its duty to protect the public health, safety and welfare.
