American Recovery & Reinvestment Act
Message From the Governor and Lt. Governor
Dear Iowans:
Iowans have met many challenges over the past couple of years. Together, we've faced historic natural disasters like ice storms, tornadoes and floods. And along with the rest of the nation, we are enduring a historic economic recession.
But as Iowans do, we meet challenges head-on and come out stronger than ever before.
As Iowa faces the current economic challenges, we are working hard to hold the line on state government spending while we also find ways to create and retain jobs. One part of that effort is the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, approved by Congress and signed into law by President Obama.

How The Money Is Helping Iowa
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has the potential to provide more than $2.5 billion in economic assistance to Iowa, in important areas such as health care, education, and infrastructure. The following charts list the major areas in which this program will benefit Iowans. The charts represents funding in nine major ARRA areas consisting of formula, competitive and demand-based funding. The charts also give an overview of fund obligations and spending. Definitions for each of the different types of ARRA funding can be found on the FAQ page.

Stories of Recovery: Linn-Mar Community School District
Despite its recent growth, the Linn-Mar Community School District needed federal funding to maintain jobs, pay for programs and avoid cutting classroom budgets. Because of the over $2.6 million in ARRA funding the district received, it was able to not only maintain its high standards, but raise them. With the funding, Linn-Mar can support its teachers, guidance counselors, School Administrative Managers and custodial staff. The district received IDEA money to work with Autism Consultants and improve its special education programs, as well as partner with Goodwill Industries to teach special needs students life skills. The school district is clearly feeling the effect of ARRA funding.
