The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has provided nearly $4.7 billion to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP). BTOP is a competitive program and will provide grants to support the deployment of broadband infrastructure in unserved and underserved areas, to enhance broadband capacity at public computer centers, and to encourage sustainable adoption of broadband service. NTIA will administer BTOP and will make the final decisions on which proposals are approved for funding. As part of its decision making process, NTIA has requested that each state provide input on projects that are proposed from within that state.
Iowans can provide additional information on Iowa-based proposals that have been submitted to NTIA at Broadband USA. Comments can be submitted via e-mail on the “Community Forum” page.
Due to time constraints imposed by NTIA, comments must be provided by 5 PM CT on Thursday, October 8th. Please include the words “BTOP Comment” in the subject line of the e-mail. All comments should include contact information (phone, e-mail, address) for the person and/or organization submitting the comments. Due to time and space constraints comments should be no longer than two pages.
