Services: The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), is designed to aid qualifying low-income Iowa households (homeowners and renters) in the payment of a portion of their residential heating costs for the winter heating season, to encourage regular utility payments, to promote energy awareness and to encourage reduction of energy usage through energy efficiency, client education, and weatherization.

Services: The Central Iowa Center for Independent Living is a community based, non-profit, non-residential program serving persons with disabilities. Our board of directors is composed of a majority of persons who have disabilities. CICIL is dedicated to assiting all persons, regardless of disability in making choices about their own lives and in experiencing success as active participants in society. CICIL serves people with disabilities and their families in Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Polk, Madison, Marion, Story, and Warren counties. CICIL serves people of all ages and disabilities. We also work with public officials, service providers and businesses that require technical assistance in responding to the needs of persons with disabilities. Services: The Dual Party Relay Service (Relay Iowa) allows communication
between text and voice telephone users via the telephone system. The
service, known as Relay Iowa, is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,
with no restrictions on the number of calls placed or on their length. This
valuable communications tool gives all individuals who are deaf,
hard-of-hearing or speech disabled the opportunity to make personal and
business calls just like any other telephone user. Both TTY and voice users

Services: The Bureau of Health Care Access advocates for quality health care delivery systems for all Iowans and provides information, referrals, education, grant opportunities, technical assistance, and planning for Iowa communities. The bureau is designated as the state entity for addressing rural health and primary care issues in Iowa and works to improve access to health care for vulnerable populations. Services: The Bureau of Health Promotion & Disability is concerned with reducing the incidence and/or severity of disability-related secondary conditions. The Bureau also works to reduce the incidence of injuries to children involved in automobile and bicycle crashes. Administrative support is provided to the Iowa Advisory Council on Head Injuries. Two injury-related databases are managed by the bureau. They are the Central Registry for Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries, and the Sentinel Project Researching Agricultural Injury Notification System (SPRAINS). The goals of the Iowa Arthritis Program are to reduce the impact of arthritis in Iowa and improve the quality of life of Iowans affected by arthritis. Return to Top of Page

Services: Self Employment Loan Program (SELP) is designed to assist in the creation and expansion of businesses owned, operated and managed by women, minorities, or persons with a disability. Entrepreneurs With Disabilities Program (EWD) helps qualified individuals with disabilities establish, acquire, maintain or expand a small business by providing technical and financial assistance. To be eligible for the program, applicants must be active clients of the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services (IVRS) or the Iowa Department for the Blind. Services: The State of Iowa is a major employer in the state and actively seeks persons with disabilities for state employment. Persons with disabilities may apply for available positions via the web. If accommodations are necessary, they may be requested through this site. In addition to providing accommodations for the application process, accommodations are also provided for testing. Applicants with disabilities that must test in order to qualify for vacancies can bypass the testing requirement if they are certified by either the Department for the Blind or the Division of Rehabilitation Services of the Department of Education as being qualified for the vacancy.
