ePay

  • ePay is an electronic payment option available through the eFile & Pay system.
  • ePay is also known as direct debit, ACH Debit, and direct payment.
  • ePay is free.
  • You control the date the amount is taken from your account.
  • You control the amount paid.
  • You determine if the payment should be taken from checking or savings.
  • You mail nothing!

You can ePay:

  • income tax final payment
  • estimated income tax
  • sales and use taxes
  • withholding taxes
  • fuel taxes

Before using ePay:

Check with your bank to see if it requires the Iowa Department of Revenue’s ePay Bank Filter (Company-ID). It is 1421590141. If you have used the Department's EFT system, please note that the new ePay system has a different filter.

When you provide your bank this Bank Filter number, you authorize Iowa Department of Revenue to debit your account. Your bank may reject debits to your account if they are not provided the Department’s Bank Filter in advance.

Enter your bank information :

Enter your bank routing number and your bank account number in the eFile & Pay system. For future payments, the system remembers your bank information. If it changes, you simply enter the new information.

Confirmation of payment:

Online, you will see a payment screen and a confirmation number. Print and keep this information.

If you are using ePay by telephone (business taxes only), you will be given a confirmation number to write down and keep with your records.

Canceling a payment:

You may cancel your payment at any time before 3 p.m. CT on the day the payment is scheduled to be withdrawn.

By telephone, you will be given the vendor’s telephone number.

Can a credit card payment be reversed?
Credit card payments are made through Official Payments Corp. Once your payment information is submitted, the transaction is complete.

To reverse a payment, you must contact Official Payments. If approved by the Department, the credit card payment is credited for the payment and the fee.

ACH Credit

When paying by ACH Credit, you provide our Department's transaction information to your bank instead of providing us with your banking information.

First:

Contact your bank for further information. Ask about the cost of ACH Credit services.

Second:

Complete and mail or fax the Iowa Authorization Agreement for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) (pdf) to set this up with our Department. We will send you information to take to your bank.

Additional information:

ACH Credit Booklet (options, how to, Q&A, calendars of due dates, etc.)

Zero Payments: Do not initiate a zero payment, but file your return showing zero due so you will not receive a delinquency notice.

Note to business tax filers:

Iowa withholding, sales/use taxes and LPG Fuel taxes are now filed through eFile & Pay. A return must still be filed when payment is made by ACH Credit.

ACH Debit

The ACH Debit option is available only for motor fuel taxes, not including LPG.

If you have an existing ACH Debit account, use the Internet debit payment option for motor fuel taxes (excluding LPG). Check browser requirements

Paying rounded vs actual amounts

When the amount is 50 cents or more, round up. When the amount is 49 cents or less, round down.

Business Taxes

When making a payment at the same time you file the deposit or return, the eFile & Pay system will automatically enter the rounded amount shown as the payment amount.

Paying the rounded amount is acceptable. However, if you are required by your internal accounting controls to pay the exact amount, you may enter the exact amount in place of the rounded figure shown by the system.
