Mark R. Schuling became
director of the Iowa Department of Revenue on December 15,
2005.
Mr. Schuling was
a practicing attorney for 25 years in Des Moines and worked
in private practice on tax litigation. During four of those years,
he was an assistant attorney general in the Iowa Attorney General's
Office and advised the Department on statutes, rules, and declaratory
rulings.
Within state government, Mr.
Schuling is chair of the Technology Governance Board.
He is a member of the Council of Economic Advisors, the Innovations
Fund Committee, and the District Court 5C Associate District Judge
Nomination Committee.
He chairs the Iowa State
University Alumni Association Audit Committee and is a board
member of the Federation of Tax Administrators.
In addition to holding
a doctor of jurisprudence degree from Drake University Law School,
Mr. Schuling is also a certified public accountant.
Mark and his wife
have two children.
