Iowa Homeland Security & Emergency Management Division
The Iowa Homeland Security & Emergency Management Division (IHSEMD) of the Department of Public Defense provides a wealth of information specifically for Iowans facing Iowa disaster-related challenges.
FEMA
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) coordinates disaster assistance at the federal level. Their website provides a link specifically for the Iowa 2010 severe storms and flooding.
County Disaster Recovery Centers
FEMA has also opened seven Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) across Iowa to assist disaster victims. The DRCs are located in Delaware, Hamilton, Jasper, Mahaska, Polk and Wright Counties. Ultimately the Iowa tax treatment of any financial assistance received for 2010 disaster relief will be driven by the federal treatment and the decisions made by the Iowa Legislature in its 2011 session. Taxpayers are encouraged to consult with their tax preparers or financial advisors when disaster assistance is received. The Department will provide further information as it becomes available.
