Public Hearing on Council Bluffs Lead Maintenance Plan

Date:
Tuesday, June 27, 2017

The DNR Air Quality Bureau will hold a public hearing to receive oral and written comments on the draft of the maintenance plan for the lead nonattainment area in Council Bluffs.

In 2011 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency designated a portion of Council Bluffs as nonattainment for the 2008 federal health standards for lead. Ambient lead concentrations measured in Council Bluffs now meet the lead standards. The maintenance plan will ensure continued attainment and maintenance of federal lead health standards. It will be submitted to EPA as a revision to the State Implementation Plan (SIP). The state of Iowa will also ask EPA to redesignate the area to attainment. View an electronic copy of the draft plan on the DNR website. Copies are also available at the Council Bluffs Public Library or the DNR Air Quality Bureau, 7900 Hickman Road, Suite 1 in Windsor Heights.

Anyone may make written comments on the proposed plan. Direct written comments to Matthew Johnson, DNR Air Quality Bureau, 7900 Hickman Road, Suite 1, Windsor Heights, IA 50324, or fax to 515-725-9501, or email to matthew.johnson@dnr.iowa.gov. All comments must be received no later than June 27.
