To register to vote print, complete, and sign the voter registration form and submit it to your county auditor either in person or by mail. Find your county auditor on the Iowa State Association of County Auditors website.
After submitting your completed form, you will receive your voter acknowledgement card in the mail within a few weeks.
1. Qualify to Register to Vote
To qualify to register to vote in Iowa, you must be:
- A U.S. citizen,
- An Iowa resident, and
- At least 17 years old.
You cannot:
- Be a convicted felon (unless your voting rights have been restored), or
- Be judged mentally incompetent to vote by a court, or
- Claim the right to vote in any other place.
In Iowa, you are not qualified to vote following a felony conviction. The Governor can restore your right to vote, including through Executive Order. To learn more about registering to vote and voting after a felony conviction, visit Voting Rights Restoration.
2. Fill out and send in your Iowa Voter Registration form
Before signing the voter registration form, you must agree that:
- You are the person named on the form.
- You are a citizen of the United States.
- You have never been convicted of a felony OR your right to vote has been restored by the Governor, including through Executive Order.
- You are at least 17 years old.
- You live at the address provided on the form.
- You are not currently judged by a court to be “incompetent to vote.”
- You do not claim the right to vote anywhere else.
Deliver or mail your registration form to your county auditor. You will receive your voter acknowledgement card in the mail within a few weeks.
